NEW WILMINGTON,PA- Titan assistant football coach Mike Fuhrman played under College Hall of Fame coach Joe Paterno and now current Houston Texans head coach Bill O’Brien as a long snapper at Penn State
During his time there, Fuhrman was named “Most Outstanding Walk-On and earned the Maxwell Club Spirit Award.
Coach Fuhrman comes from Penn State University, a college that is looked like one of the best.
“It was a dream come true to have the opportunity to be a walk-on as long snapper at Penn-State, and the biggest thing was knowing I was going to go into coaching.”
After his time at Penn State, Coach Fuhrman began his coaching career.
“My first Job I got the opportunity to coach in a startup football league called the FXFL (Fall Experimental Football League), I coached a Division two school in Ohio called Tiffin University on the offensive side of the ball coaching as an assistant offensive line coach and tight ends coach my second year, and then after that I got the opportunity to come back to Pittsburgh where I’m originally from to coach with Coach Miller at Robert Morris.”
Fuhrman was always an offensive minded coach until he came to Westminster.
I come here and flip over to the defensive side of the ball with Coach Benzel along with Coach Miller and its been a really good experience learning this side of the ball because my background has always been in offense and learning the other side of the ball is good because I have background in offense, so we have an understanding of what teams are trying to do.”
While he is here, coach Fuhrman will be doing more than just coaching linebackers.
I’m responsible for a lot of the day to day operations, breaking down film, making sure all the calls for the practices are input, on away games I have to make sure we have our travel list with all our check marks, then going to class to get my master degree which is really important to me.
Coach Fuhrman is a hands-on kind of coach.
