GREENVILLE, Pa. (pacathletics.org)–Grove City College was selected as this year’s favorite in the Presidents’ Athletic Conference (PAC) Men’s Soccer Preseason Coaches’ Poll, based on a vote of the league’s eight head coaches. The results of the poll were announced with the league’s players to watch list Thursday.
Grove City, led by 13th-year head coach Mike Dreves, collected four of the available eight first-place votes and 58 total points to earn the top spot in this year’s preseason poll.
In his first 12 seasons, Dreves has guided the Wolverines to 125 total wins and 11 PAC Championship Tournament appearances. Grove City last appeared in the league’s title match in 2014. The program’s most recent conference title came in 2005, a 2-1 victory over top-seeded Washington & Jefferson College at Alexandre Stadium in Washington, Pennsylvania.
In 2017, Grove City compiled a 12-6-4 overall record, including a 6-1-1 conference mark. The Wolverines qualified for the 16-team Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III Championship and advanced to the semifinal round.
Bethany College and Westminster College tied for fourth in this year’s poll with 38 points. They were followed by Waynesburg University in sixth (25), Thiel College in seventh (16) and Saint Vincent College in eighth (10).
This season’s players to watch list includes six All-PAC First Team selections and four All-PAC Second Team selections from last fall. Geneva, Grove City and Westminster each have a pair of first team picks scheduled to return this season. All six of the PAC’s top point scorers from 2017 will be back this fall, led by Westminster sophomore forward Nick Iregui (Gig Harbor, Wash. | Charles Wright Academy), who paced the PAC in points (34) and goals (15) last season.
