GROVE CITY, Pa. – Third-seed Westminster College lost, 14-3, at top-seed Grove City College in the Presidents’ Athletic Conference (PAC) Men’s Lacrosse Championship on Saturday afternoon.
The Titans, in only their fourth year of existence, were playing in their first PAC Title game in their first postseason run in school history.
Grove City (12-5) scored one goal in the first quarter and three in the second to take a 4-0 lead at halftime. Westminster (9-7) got on the scoreboard in the third quarter, when junior Tyler Nordby (Burnt Hills, NY / Burnt Hills) found senior Ryan Shorts (Westlake Village, CA / Oak Park), who rifled a shot from 13 yards out for a goal with 13:45 on the clock. The Wolverines followed with three more goals, before Shorts scored his second goal of the game (this time freshman Joe Rosa (Newton, NJ / Kittatinny Regional) with the assist) with 4:30 to go in the third. Shorts now has 10 games scoring multiple goals. Grove City led, 8-2, after three quarters of play. The Wolverines outscored the Titans, 6-1 in the fourth to seal the win. Nordby scored the final Titan goal, after receiving a pass from sophomore Nick Trella (Moon Twp, PA / Moon Area), with eight minutes left.
Titan senior goal keeper Carter Hall (Zeeland, MI / Zeeland West) collected 10 saves between the pipes, marking the 12th time this year he has earned double-digit saves in a game. Titan junior Dylan Wolford (Apex, NC / Apex) led the Titans with four ground balls, while sophomore Jack Granahan (Aldie, VA / John Champe) had three. Shorts extended his program-best career goals to 106.
The Titans will wait to find out if they receive an Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Tournament bid next week.
