NEW WILMINGTON, Pa.-- Former New Wilmington mayor and Lawrence County commissioner Wendell Wagner passed away on Nov. 24.   He was 87.

The 1955 Westminster graduate was a friend of the Westminster Cable Network, eagerly doing interviews over the years on community issues and campus traditions, including homecoming events.  In a 2009 WCN interview, Wagner recalled his days in the 1950s working on our campus radio station.

Current Lawrence County commissioners paid tribute to Wagner this week by ordering the flag at the courthouse lowered to half-staff.

Wagner served as a county commissioner in the 1980s.  He also served many terms as a council member for the Borough of New Wilmington.  He would later serve as mayor for 12-years before retiring.
