Hoyt Science Center’s $1.3 Million Facelift

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa.–Westminster College’s science academic building is currently going through some major renovations to its interior design. The Hoyt Resource Science Center upgrades cost nearly $1.3 million dollars.

The renovations at Hoyt include:

  • Painted Walls
  • Redone Floors and Ceiling
  • Modernized Study Rooms
  • Lounge Furniture
  • Glass Showcase
  • Glass Railings
  •  Carpeting
  •  Tables

Most science students spend their time within the walls of Hoyt, so administration thought it was time to upgrade the facility.

The last time Hoyt received renovations was in the early 2000’s.

“We’ve been wanting to renovate Hoyt for a long time. The two things holding up the renovation are the finalization of the plans as to what we want to renovate and, of course, money.” – Kenneth J. Romig, Westminster College Vice President for FMS

Well thanks to the donations of two bequests of the college among other funding, Hoyt looks like a modern science facility fit for its bright students. This first phase of the renovations is mostly about updating the floors, walls, and ceilings in Hoyt.

“We wanted to enhance the first impressions for folks visiting Hoyt and we wanted to make a more comfortable and more up to date environment for the students and employees in Hoyt,” said Romig.

And that they are doing. Students are now able to comfortably enjoy new lounge areas, updated study rooms, and modern designs.

“My favorite part is the “Mini Hub” added on the 3rd floor with comfy chairs, tables, outlets, a white board, TV, and even a Keurig  The new renovations definitely make it easier to study in Hoyt.”- Austin Ruediger, Neuroscience student
