Shaw Hall’s $1 Million Makeover

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa.– What can you get for $1 million these days? At Westminster College, that kind of money can renovate an entire floor of a residence hall.  That’s what happened to the first floor of Shaw Hall this summer.

Nearly dozen rooms for first year students, both men and women, received major makeovers as well as Shaw’s first floor common spaces used by all residents.

“All of the rooms on the first floor, all the bathrooms on the first floor, the lobby and the kitchen area were all updated,” said Amanda Ries, Assistant Dean of Residence Life.

New and improved:

  • Flooring
  • Fixtures
  • Appliances
  • Paint
  • Furniture

Students described the new kitchen area as a “gourmet-like.”  It’s more than a small update for students looking to make a meal.  It’s a complete makeover.  The new kitchen features a sleek modern design with a backsplash of a white subway tile.

The space includes new stainless steel appliances, sleek granite countertops and an island with plenty of seating to enjoy your food while watching your favorite show on the flat screen TV.

Residents on the first floor also benefit from renovated bathrooms. They feature newly tiled flooring, modern countertops, sinks, and showers with doors.

Each room also features new crisp flooring and freshly painted walls.  Some students say it’s a long overdue makeover for a structure built in 1960.

There’s no word yet if Westminster officials will budget money for additional residence hall renovations.
