NEW WILMINGTON, Pa.-- Starting Monday, Aug. 16, Westminster College will require everyone on campus to wear a mask when they are inside campus buildings. All students, faculty, staff and visitors must wear a mask covering the nose and mouth regardless of their vaccination status.
Some students have already returned for training regarding roles as residence hall assistants. Many student-athletes will also arrive early to campus. New students move into dorms on Aug. 27 for opening convocation and orientation. In-person classes begin on Aug. 30.
College officials encourage outdoor masking for those who are not fully vaccinated when physical distancing is impossible. Outdoor masking is not required. Masking is not needed when an individual is alone in a private room with the door closed or actively eating/drinking.
"As campus begins to densify, we want to take precautions that provide a healthy and safe start to the academic year," Student Life Dean Gina Vance announced in an email on Friday. "The changes are a direct response to the growing rates of transmission in the local community and around the country. The county where the College is located is currently experiencing substantial transmission. Our policy responds to the increased transmission rates and may be adjusted again when those rates decline. We continue to emphasize the fluid and responsive nature of our policies."
All members of the campus community are strongly encouraged to be vaccinated and to report their vaccination status through the Health Portal (students) or Human Resources (employees).
The first vaccination clinic for any campus member is scheduled for August 24, and reservations can be made through the Wellness Center.
