WILKES BARRE, Pa.-- Four members of the Westminster College Speech & Debate Society competed in the Pennsylvania Forensic Association Championship Tournament on February 15-16 at Wilkes University in Wilkes Barre. The abbreviated Westminster squad exceeded expectations and brought home several awards from the state tournament. All four team members reached final round competition in a total of four separate events! Their final placements include:

  • Senior Julie Yesko- 4th place Poetry Interpretation

  • First Year Iris Davis Hall- 6th place After-Dinner Speaking

  • First Years Izayah Bojanac and Evan Brochinsky- 2nd place Dramatic Duo

These outstanding performances earned Westminster a fifth place overall placement at the tournament and the top award- State Championship in President’s Division (for schools with smaller numbers of total entries). In bringing home the First place President’s Award, the team finished just ahead of Grove City College in second, and Penn State University in third!

Westminster College also won the bid to host the state championship tournament on our campus next February!

The squad’s next outing will be March 6-8 at the Novice National Forensics Tournament at Berry College in Rome, Georgia.
