GROVE CITY, Pa. – The Westminster baseball team lost both games in their road doubleheader at Grove City on Sunday.
In game one, Grove City (15-7, 13-4 PAC) did not give up a run and scored five runs in the second, two in the fourth, and three in the sixth to win 10-0. Junior Matt Costello (Castle, PA / Union Area) had multiple hits for Westminster (9-15, 5-13 PAC). Titan junior Paul Midili (Spring Hill, FL / Bishop Mclaughlin Catholic) (3-2) got the start on the mound and pitched 3.2 innings, while giving up seven runs off seven hits.
The Titans jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in game two with a pair of runs in the first. First-year Logan Murgenovich (Aliquippa, PA / Central Valley) scored the first run with an RBI-single down the right field line, bringing home junior Austin Webb (Wadsworth, OH / Wadsworth). Senior Tyler Barnot (Pittsburgh, PA / Bethel Park) extended Westminster's lead in the very next at-bat with an RBI-single of his own up the middle to score classmate Frank Cinicola (Cranberry Township, PA / Seneca Valley). Grove City, however, scored 12-straight runs to lead 12-2 after six innings of play. The Titans scored their last run in the seventh, while Grove City scored twice in the bottom of the seventh and added four more in the eighth to win 18-3. Barnot had a team-high three hits in the nightcap. Junior Logan Minch (Grove City, PA / Grove City Area) (0-4) started for the Titans and threw 3.0 innings, giving up four earned runs (seven total) off seven hits.
The Titans are back on the diamond Friday, April 23 with a doubleheader at Geneva. Game one is set for 1 p.m.
