NORTHBROOK, Ill. – Westminster College senior linebacker Ian Barr (Senior State College, PA / State College Area) was nominated for the 2021 Allstate American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) Good Works Team®.
"The AFCA has proudly partnered with Allstate to honor football student-athletes who volunteer their time and energy to give back," AFCA Executive Director Todd Berry said. "These nominees serve as examples to their fellow student-athletes and members of their community, proving that selfless acts will enrich the lives of people they know and don't know, acting as a true champion would."
To be considered for a spot on the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team, each player must be actively involved with a charitable organization or service group while maintaining a strong academic standing.
Barr has been a part of Westminster football's community service initiative during his career. Barr, a biology major, boasted a GPA of 3.90. Barr was rewarded for one of the finest defensive performances for a season in program history as he was named D3football.com First Team All-American, PAC Defensive Player of the Year, First Team All-PAC, and the "In The (D3FB) Huddle" Defensive Player of the Season. In the classroom, Barr has been on the PAC Academic Honor Roll every season and was named 2021 College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-America®.
The final 22-member team and honorary coach are selected by a voting panel of former Allstate AFCA Good Works Team members and journalists. After the final team members are announced in September, fans can cast their vote for this year's Allstate AFCA Good Works Team captain through the official page on ESPN.com. Fans can use #GoodWorksTeam on their social media channels to join the conversation throughout the season.
