GREENVILLE, Pa. (pacathletics.org)--No. 2 Grove City College defeated No. 4 Washington & Jefferson College 54-52 in the Presidents’ Athletic Conference (PAC) Women’s Basketball Championship Tournament title game Saturday evening.
It is Grove City's (25-2) second PAC title. The Wolverines also won in 1986-87. It was Grove City's 12th-straight victory. The 25 wins are the most in program history.
No. 1 Saint Vincent College hosted this year's semifinal round and title game at the Robert S. Carey Student Center. With the league's double-bye format, both No. 1 Saint Vincent and No. 2 Grove City automatically advanced to the championship tournament's semifinal round. W&J (18-10) eliminated Saint Vincent, last year's PAC champion, with a 74-53 victory in Friday night's semifinal.
Saturday was the league's first championship tournament title game played on a neutral floor. The PAC went to its championship tournament format in 1999-00.
Grove City will receive the league's automatic qualifying bid to this year's Division III Championship Tournament. Forty-three conferences have been granted automatic qualification to this year's 64-team championship.
