Pair of runner-up finishes keep Titan men in second

GROVE CITY, Pa.--The Westminster College men's swimming and diving team remains in second place after a pair of individual runner-up finishes Friday night at the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Championships. 

The conference championships are being hosted by Grove City College at the James E. Longnecker Competition Pool, home of the league championships since 1990.

Grove City leads the seven-team championship field with 684 points. Westminster is second with 485 points. Saint Vincent College is third (442). 

Junior Paul Kallaur (Bethel Park, Pa. | Homeschooled) finished second in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 57.20 seconds. Sophomore Samuel Duda (Tulsa, Okla. | Bishop Kelley) was second in the 100 backstroke after posting a time of 54.11. 

Sophomore Dawson Yocum (Flower Mound, Texas | Flower Mound) finished fourth in the 200 freestyle (1:46.76). 

Freshman Ron Whitehouse (Maryville, Tenn. | Maryville) and senior Stephen Adametz (Glenshaw, Pa. | Shaler) finished sixth and eighth, respectively, in the 100 backstroke, with Whitehouse posting a time of 55.94 and Adametz finishing with a time of 58.38. Sophomore Michael Phillips (Saxonburg, Pa. | Knoch) finished eighth in the 400 individual medley (4:34.75). 

The 200 medley relay, made up of Duda, Kallaur, Adametz and graduate student Kevin MacMurdo (Pittsburgh, Pa. | Carlynton), finished in fourth place (1:37.48) in the final event of the night. 

The championships will conclude Saturday. Preliminaries in the 200 backstroke, the 100 freestyle, the 200 breaststroke, the 200 butterfly and the 1650 freestyle are slated to get underway at 10 a.m. The preliminaries of the 3-meter dive are scheduled for approximately 2 p.m.

Saturday's finals will begin at 5:30 p.m., with senior members from all participating schools being recognized at 5:15 p.m.
