NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. (Titan Athletics)– The Westminster College football team defeated Waynesburg University to open up its Presidents’ Athletic Conference (PAC) schedule on Saturday afternoon by a score of 45-21.

In the first half, Westminster (2-0, 1-0 PAC) utilized its air attack to compile a five-play, 70-yard drive culminating in a 34-yard touchdown reception by sophomore Antwon Jones (Ocala, FL / Belleview) from classmate Cole Konieczka (Coraopolis, PA / Moon Area) to take a 7-0 lead. With less than a minute remaining in the first quarter, the Titans scored again when Konieczka connected with senior Connor Cox (Ridge, MD / Leonardtown) on a four-yard touchdown to give Westminster a 14-0 lead at the end of the first quarter.

In the second quarter, Konieczka tossed his third passing touchdown of the first half with a 17-yard strike to senior Dwyane Brown (Richmond Heights, OH / Richmond Heights) to extend the Titans’ lead to 21-0. Three of Westminster’s first five drives resulted in a touchdown.

Waynesburg tallied its first touchdown of the contest at the 7:55 mark of the third quarter. The Titans responded when senior Tyler Greene (Carlisle, PA / Carlisle) scampered into the end zone with one of his two rushing touchdowns on the day to give Westminster a 28-7 lead. After a 36-yard field goal by freshman Tanner Dudek (Leechburg, PA / Leechburg Area), Konieczka tallied his career-high fourth passing touchdown of the contest on a 40-yard toss to Cox to give the Titans a commanding 38-7 lead late in the third quarter. Cox’s two touchdown receptions tied a career-best.

In the fourth quarter, Greene notched his second rushing touchdown of the game on a one-yard score with 9:21 left. Waynesburg would score twice in the fourth quarter, but the Titans claimed the victory by a final score of 45-21. Not including the kneel down to run out the clock, Westminster scored on its last four drives (three touchdowns and a field goal).

Konieczka completed 13-of-25 for 191 yards through the air, to go along with his career-best four touchdown tosses. The last Titan quarterback to throw four touchdowns in a game was Paul Columbo in 2017 against Saint Vincent. Three Titans tallied more than 80 yards on the ground, led by senior Bryce Hill (Boynton Beach, FL / Boca Raton Community) who earned a career- and team-high 92 yards on eight carries (11.5 avg.). Senior Keano Grice (Delray Beach, FL / West Boca Raton) notched a career-high 91 yards on nine carries (10.1 avg.). Greene also ran for a career-high with 88 yards on nine carries (9.7), while reaching pay dirt twice – setting another personal best. Westminster as a team ran for 274 yards (7.8 avg.), the most team rushing yards since 2017 when it ran for 282 against Bethany. Cox led all receivers with six catches for 92 yards. Dudek tied his career-long with a 36-yard field goal and went 6-for-6 on point-after-touchdowns (PATs). Dudek is now a perfect 2-for-2 on field goals and 15-for-15 on PATs.

Senior Paul Gonzalez (Miami, FL / Florida Christian) and sophomore Bryce Thomas (Saint Marys, GA / Camden County) led the Titan defense with eight tackles a piece. Senior Darius Doty (Greensburg, PA / Greensburg-Salem) added seven tackles. Freshman Drew Manning (St. Marys, GA / Camden County) earned a sack, while sophomore Vincent Giles (Lexington Park, MD / Great Mills) had an interception.

Westminster will conclude its three-game home stretch on Saturday, September 21 against Saint Vincent College (0-1, 0-0 PAC). Kickoff is slated for 1 p.m.
