MARSHALL, Mich. - The Westminster women's golf team broke the school record for lowest 36-hole score with a 663 at the two-day Kyle Campbell Invitational hosted by Olivet College.
The score broke Westminster's previous mark of 671 set at last year's Presidents' Athletic Conference Championship. Yesterday, the Titans carded a 323 (+35), breaking the school record for low round vs. par.
Junior Erika Hoover (New Castle, PA / Wilmington Area) led the Titans with a two-day score of 155 (78-77), tying for second (only two strokes behind first place) out of 103 players.
Overall, the Titans finished fourth out of 17 schools – only two strokes behind third place and three behind second place.
Titan sophomore Morgan Byers (Venetia, PA / Peters Township) carded a 165 (80-85), for 14th place. Closely behind was junior Kasey Clifford (Longport, NJ / Ocean City) with 166 (79-87), tying in 15th. Rounding out the top four scorers for the Titans was sophomore Sierra Richard (Beaver Falls, PA / Blackhawk) who tied for 46th (177). Also competing for Westminster were juniors Baylee Horvath (Murrysville, PA / Franklin Regional) and Olivia Ledbetter (Tarrs, PA / Southmoreland) who tied in 87th with identical scores of 197 (102-95).
Also on Saturday, Westminster fielded a group that finished eighth in the Grove City Invitational. The Titans carded a final score of 447, ten strokes behind seventh place. Junior Brynn Shetterly (Seville, OH / Cloverleaf) scored a 103, finishing tied for 30th. Senior Alexa Hutchinson followed with a final score of 110, placing 43rd. First-year Krysta Germanoski (Meadville, PA / Meadville Area) tied for 47th (116), closely behind was sophomore Theresa Schneider (Chardon, OH / Chardon) who sat at 50th place at the end of the day. Rounding out the Titan scorers was Kara Hutchinson (Geneva, OH / Geneva) who carded a 123 and tied for 53rd.
The Titans are back on the course on Sunday, September 12 as they travel to Alliance, Ohio to compete in the Mount Union Invitational at Tannehauf Golf Course.
