Women’s Tennis: Titans Open Season with Convincing Win over Pitt-Greensburg

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. – The Westminster women's tennis team opened their season with an 8-1 win over Pitt-Greensburg at home Saturday afternoon.

The Titans won No. 2 through No. 6 singles, led by junior Sabrina Slagle (Upper St. Clair, PA / Upper St. Clair) at No. 2 winning 6-2, 6-0 over Miranda Berkebile.

Westminster swept the doubles competition, led first-year duos of Gia Francisco (Canfield, OH / Canfield) and Emma Sukal (Pittsburgh, PA / Baldwin) at No. 1.

The Titans are back on the courts Saturday, Sept. 11 as they host an invitational, starting with a match against Thiel at 9:30 a.m.

1. Emily Ruhlman (GRNW) def. Gia Francisco (WES) 6-1, 6-2

2. Sabrina Slagle (WES) def. Miranda Berkebile (GRNW) 6-2, 6-0

3. Emma Sukal (WES) def. Abigail Rosman (GRNW) 6-2, 6-1

4. Sara Small (WES) def. Cathryn Rossi (GRNW) 6-0, 6-2

5. Caroline Fox (WES) def. Amber Sterrett (GRNW) 7-5, 6-1

6. Ryleigh Valone (WES) def. Isabella Lane (GRNW) 6-4, 6-1

Doubles competition

1. Gia Francisco/Emma Sukal (WES) def. Emily Ruhlman/Abigail Rosman (GRNW) 8-2

2. Sabrina Slagle/Sara Small (WES) def. Miranda Berkebile/Cathryn Rossi (GRNW) 8-3
