NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. – The 2018 Westminster College men’s lacrosse team, led by third-year Head Coach Patrick Geiger, returns 18 letterwinners from a year ago.

The Titans enter their third year of competition after forming in the 2016. They bring back seven All-Ohio River Lacrosse Conference (ORLC) selections, headlined by junior midfielder Ryan Shorts (Westlake Village, CA / Oak Park).

Shorts was named on the All-ORLC First Team and earned Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III South Second Team honors, coming off a season where he finished second in the league with a team-best 59 points and third in the conference with a team-high 39 goals. Both marks were school records. Shorts currently is the school career leader in goals with 54.

Juniors goalkeeper Carter Hall (Zeeland, MI / Zeeland West) and defender Matt Trella (Moon Twp, PA / Moon Area), along with sophomores attackman Chris Slater (Plum, PA / Central Catholic), midfielder Adrian Culp (Gaithersburg, MD / Quince Orchard), and midfielder Steven Knight (Wyckoff, NJ / Ramapo) all earned ORLC Honorable Mention honors.

Culp and Slater registered 36 and 33 points, respectively. Trella caused a team-high 14 turnovers, while Hall gathered in a career-high 188 saves. Knight won 19 faceoffs and earned 35 ground balls.

“If we can keep ball in stick and stick on gloves, we’ll be able to compete with the best teams,” Geiger said. Geiger comes into the season after a 7-7 overall (3-4 ORLC) 2017 season in just the second year in the program’s existence. The Titans took advantage of their home field, finishing with an impressive 6-2 record at home.

Juniors midfielder Shamon Walker (Pittsburgh, PA / Milton Hersey), midfielder Alex Kennedy (Moon Township, PA / Moon Area), and defender Reid Lutz (Pittsburgh, PA / West Allegheny), sophomores midfielder Ryan Stiemly (Edgewood, MD/Edgewood / Edgewood), defender Michael Hamiche (Victor, NY / Victor), attackman Tyler Nordby (Burnt Hills, NY / Burnt Hills), midfielder Dante Serra (Center Valley, PA / Southern Lehigh), midfielder Akeenan Roberson (Ft. Gainsville, FL / Eastside), defender Ian Ross (San Diego, CA / Coronado), midfielder Dylan Wolford (Apex, NC / Apex), and defender Nolan Seifert (Monroeville, PA / Gateway) round out the letterwinners. Also, Westminster adds 18 newcomers, including 16 freshmen.

The Titans open up the season on the road in Greensboro, NC on Sunday, March 4 in a non-conference game against Guilford College at 1 p.m. Westminster will play its home- and conference-opener on Saturday, March 10 against Earlham College with a 1 p.m. start time.
