GREENVILLE, Pa. (pacathletics.org)–Grove City College has earned the top seed in this year’s Presidents’ Athletic Conference (PAC) Men’s Lacrosse Championship Tournament.
Grove City (10-5), led by second-year head coach Alec Jernstedt, earned the four-team championship tournament’s top seed after going 7-0 in league play during the regular season.
In Wednesday’s semifinal round, No. 2 Saint Vincent College (8-7) and 18th-year head coach Peter Tulk will host No. 3 Westminster College (8-6), led by first-year head coach Travis Brown, at 4 p.m. at UPMC Field. Top-seeded Grove City will host No. 4 Chatham University (9-6), led by second-year head coach Phil Dodson, at 7 p.m. at Robert E. Thorn Field.
Saturday’s title match will be hosted by the highest-remaining seed following Wednesday’s semifinal matches. Information regarding this year’s championship match will be announced after the completion of the semifinal round.
Team selections for the NCAA Division III Championship are scheduled to be announced Sunday, May 5 at 9 p.m. (EDT) with an online selection show available at ncaa.com. First and second round matchups are scheduled for Tuesday-Wednesday, May 7-8.
On December 19, 2012 the PAC Presidents’ Council formally announced its approval of the addition of men’s and women’s lacrosse. Unofficial conference championship events took place in 2013 and 2014.
The formation of the single-sport Ohio River Lacrosse Conference (ORLC), announced on September 1, 2014, allowed PAC programs to compete alongside schools from the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC). The 2018 season was the final season for PAC schools to compete in the ORLC.
Last June, the PAC announced it would be sponsoring men’s and women’s lacrosse as Division III automatic-qualifying sports, starting in the 2018-19 academic year.
This spring, the PAC will be among the 27 conferences granted Pool A automatic qualification (AQ) to the annual Division III Championship.
