PITTSBURGH (Titan Athletics) The Westminster College men’s soccer team defeated non-conference opponent La Roche College, 2-0, on the road Monday afternoon.

Westminster improved to 5-2 on the season, while La Roche fell to 2-5 on the year.

Sophomore Nick Iregui (Gig Harbor, WA / Charles Wright Academy), who was recently named PAC Offensive Player of the Week, opened up the scoring with a goal in the fifth-minute of play to give Westminster an early 1-0 lead. 18 minutes later, at the 23:07 mark, Iregui found the back of the net again, expanding the Titan lead 2-0. Westminster led by the same score at halftime, and held off La Roche from scoring the rest of the way. Freshman Marc Esqueda (San Bruno, CA / Junipero Serra) tallied three shots and three shots on goal, while junior Peter Mattocks totaled three shots and two shots on goal.

Westminster led in shots (19-13) and shots on goal (9-7) while edging the Redhawks in corner kicks (3-2). Senior goalkeeper AJ Bove (New Stanton, PA / Hempfield Area) stopped seven shots in a complete-game effort to improve his record to 5-2 on the season.

Westminster is back in action Tuesday, September 25 at home against non-conference opponent Frostburg State University. Start time is set for 7:30 p.m.
