NEW WILMINGTON, Pa–Kappa Delta is hosting a purse drive until March 31 to donate to the Lawrence County Crisis Shelter as one of their philanthropy events this semester.
The women in the sorority have been working with the Crisis Shelter for years. They have hosted this specific event for a few years and it has always been a success according to current president, Samantha Tome.
The shelter is for people to go to in time of distress including sexual assault, domestic violence, and other serious crimes. Their services are for not only women, but for anyone who has suffered from these crimes, regardless of sex, race, sexual orientation, age and other factors.
The Kappa Delta’s purse drive is specifically impacting the women who are currently residing in the shelter. This lines up with their philanthropy goals of empowering women.
Mckenna Camargo discussed the many events the ladies do on top of the purse drive to promote empowerment in women’s lives. They also donated toiletries shelter during formal recruitment in January to promote their philanthropy work to potential members she said.
Other events they have done included “Lip Sync” which helped raise over $300 for Prevent Child Abuse America. The ladies also participated in the Confidence Carnival with the local Girl Scout Troops.
The women in the fraternity will personally deliver the donated purses to the crisis shelter. They are also trying to get a card to go with the donated bags to show their support for the women going through a tough time in their lives.
The sorority will also be putting more events together to promote happiness and positivity on and off campus to students.
“Kappa Delta is looking to become more involved on campus and has set a goal to either put on an event or do something for the student body each month. So keep a lookout for of KD each month”, said President Samantha Tome.
They are currently working with the library to put together something during finals week for Westminster students.
The purse drive will conclude this Friday. If you have any purses that you are willing to donate, there are drop off boxes in Ferguson Hall, Old Main, the TUB, and Brown Hall.
