Saints coach Sean Payton says he didn't mean to insinuate on a recent television appearance that record-setting quarterback Drew Brees plans to retire after the upcoming season. Payton says he meant to convey that the 41-year-old quarterback is taking it “year by year” after signing a two-year, $50 million contract last month. Payton was correcting a reference he made to Brees' “final season” in an ESPN interview on Tuesday. Payton also says he's been medically cleared to end his coronavirus quarantine and is working at a draft headquarters set up in an expansive space at the Dixie Brewery.

The Denver Broncos continued raiding the Detroit Lions roster in free agency by signing punter Sam Martin to a three-year deal worth $7 million. Martin will join a pair of former Lions teammates in Denver. The Broncos earlier this month signed offensive lineman Graham Glasgow to a four-year, $44 million contract and backup quarterback Jeff Driskel to a $5 million deal over two years.

Free agent safety Eric Reid is calling for an investigation and a re-vote in the NFL's recently ratified collective bargaining agreement. Reid says the players' association inexplicably added language regarding disability payments after players narrowly approved the pact earlier this month. Reid's lawyers suggest the changes and lack of transparency means the pact should be invalidated. The NFL declined comment and the NFLPA did not respond to a request for comments on Reid's calls for invalidating the contract that runs through the 2030 season.
