BETHANY, W.Va. – The Westminster College softball team split with Presidents’ Athletic Conference (PAC) opponent Bethany College on Saturday afternoon.

Westminster (21-6, 12-1 PAC) defeated Bethany (14-14, 7-7 PAC) in game one, 6-1. The Bison defeated the Titans, 3-2, in game two in eight innings. Westminster tied the school record for consecutive wins with 19 after its game one victory. Senior Jazmyn Rohrer (Purcellville, VA / Woodgrove) broke the single season school record for strikeouts with 11 total between the two games. Rohrer tied the record of 172 strikeouts in a season with 10 strikeouts in her game one start and earned her 11th strikeout of the day in game two, totaling her season strikeout count to 173. The record was previously set by Bethany Pinkerton back in 2001 (172).

In game one, junior Kailey Liverman (Purcellville, VA / Loudoun Valley) started the scoring for the Titans with a ground ball to second base, scoring senior Alexa Owrey (New Castle, PA / Shenango) to give Westminster a 1-0 lead. Also, in the first, Rohrer singled down the right field line, bringing in senior Addie Dieterich (Purcellville, VA / Loudoun Valley) for a 2-0 Titan lead. In the top of the fourth, first-year Breanna Tetirick (New Concord, OH / John Glenn) singled to right, scoring junior Makena Baumgardner (Summerhill, PA / Forest Hills) and extending the lead, 3-0. Bethany scored in the bottom of the fourth to cut into the Titan lead, 3-1, however, Westminster scored three runs in the top half of the fifth, courtesy of A. Dieterich, senior Courtney Cohen (New Wilmington, PA / Wilmington), and classmate Nikki Anderson (Oakmont, PA / Riverview) to put Westminster up 6-1. Rohrer pitched a complete-game, giving up five hits, one run (unearned) and striking out ten. A. Dieterich went 3-for-4 with two runs and an RBI.

In game two, Bethany’s Ashley Narigon singled up the middle to give the Bison an early 1-0 lead in the first inning. Liverman tied the game up at one in the top of the fourth with a double down the left field line. In the bottom of the sixth, the Bison’s Tyra Bell homered to right field, giving Bethany a 2-1 lead. Liverman started the top of the seventh with an infield single. After advancing to second base on a passed ball and to third base from a Rohrer sacrifice bunt, Liverman was caught in a rundown between home and third from a Cohen ground ball to second. After Liverman retreated to third from the catcher, Liverman darted home, scoring and tying the game at two due to the catcher dropping the throw from third base. In the bottom of the eighth inning, Bethany’s Narigon singled to short, bringing in teammate Kayla Dinsmore for a walk-off win. Senior Hannah Ritter (Front Royal, VA / Skyline) pitched 5.1 innings, giving up six hits and two earned runs. Rohrer pitched 2.1 innings, giving up one run (unearned) and striking out one.
