NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. – The Westminster College softball team is set to travel to Crestview Hills, Kentucky for the 2018 Presidents’ Athletic Conference (PAC) Championship Tournament.
The four-team, double-elimination tournament will take place Friday-Saturday, May 4-5 at one-seeded Thomas More College.
Westminster has qualified for the PAC Tournament 12 times in the 15 years it has been eligible for the PAC Title (since the 2003 season). The Titans have played in the championship game three times, including their 2005 PAC Title (2017 and 2003 were the other years).
Second-seeded Westminster (25-7, 16-2) and third-seeded Saint Vincent College (21-8, 12-5) will get things going Friday at 10 a.m. Top-seeded Thomas More (27-13, 17-1) and fourth-seeded Bethany College (17-16, 9-8) will match up in the second opening-round game at 12 p.m.
The Titans swept the Bearcats at home in a doubleheader on Sunday, April 29 (6-3, 6-0).
Admission will be $5 for adults and $2 for students.
The losers of Friday’s opening-round matchups will meet in elimination Game C at 2 p.m., followed by the winners of the two opening-round games facing off at 4 p.m.
On Saturday, the winner of Game C will meet the loser of Game D in an elimination game at 11 a.m. for the right to play for the conference title against the Game D winner at 1 p.m. If both teams have one loss at that point, the “if necessary” game is scheduled for 3 p.m.
The PAC Championship Tournament winner will secure the league’s automatic qualifying bid to the NCAA Division III Championship, with regional preliminary round play scheduled to begin Thursday-Sunday, May 10-13. Team and site selections for the Division III Softball Championship will be announced at 1 p.m. (EDT) on Monday, May 7 and streamed on ncaa.com.
