WINTER PARK, Fla. – The Westminster College men’s and women’s swimming teams competed at Rollins College in Winter Park, Florida Wednesday afternoon.
The Titan women were outscored by the Tars, 163-99. Westminster’s record dropped to 3-3 on the season. The Rollins men’s team also outdueled Westminster, 157-105. The Titan men dropped their first meet of the season, putting their overall record at 5-1.
For the Titan women, senior Megan Douds (Bethel Park, PA / Bethel Park) earned first-place in the 1000-yard freestyle (11:26.30), 100-yard butterfly (1:05.00), and the 500-yard freestyle (5:36.29). This the seventh time in her four-year career Douds has earned three first-place finishes in one meet. Sophomore Abigail Jones (Cabot, PA / Knoch) notched a first-place finish and a new career-high, swimming first-place time of 1:04.87 in the 100-yard IM. Jones also earned second in the 50-yard breaststroke (32.95) and the 100-yard breaststroke (1:09.79).
Senior Mitch Stahara (Bethel Park, PA / Bethel Park) earned a first-place victory for the Titan men, swimming the 200-yard freestyle in 1:47.57. Junior David Peffer (Ellwood City, PA / Riverside) earned first in the 50-yard backstroke (26.26) and second in the 100-yard backstroke (55.32) and the 500-yard freestyle (5:02.83). Sophomore Thomas Somora (Grove City, PA / Grove City) earned a new career-high in the 50-yard breaststroke with a first-place time of 29.10. Somora also swam second in the 100-yard IM with a time of 59.03.
The Titans are back in action Wednesday, January 11 as they host Marywood University in the Westminster Diving Tune-Up.
