NEW WILMINGTON, Pa- Westminster is a small college with a lot of heart. Every student has a cause near and dear to them. For many of them cancer affects their lives and many even take up the fight against cancer. A lot of times this means embracing the color pink.
October is the month for all the women who have been affected by Breast Cancer. On campus we have an organization Colleges Against Cancer (CAC) and a specific sorority, Zeta Tau Alpha who’s philanthropy is Breast Cancer Research and Education and these two groups educate and raise money for breast cancer. During this month the sorority puts together many events to raise money for the Breast Cancer Research and Education foundation. Over the years they have raised over $12,000 during this month with all the events they hold. CAC is currently selling t-shirts that are meant to be worn during the Pink Out sporting events.
Events to raise money for Breast Cancer:
- Oct. 19 $1 Kiss Away Cancer
- Oct. 20 $1 Carnation to a Patient
- Oct. 21 $1 donuts in the morning- $1 Pie a Zeta
- Oct. 23 Dodge for a Cause
Athletic Pink Out Games:
- Oct.22 Football
- Oct. 25 Girls Soccer
- Oct. 26 Mens Soccer
These events are meant to bring together the student body and the community. The campus events are for students and the community to become more educated about this awful cancer that takes many women’s lives. 1 out of 8 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime, meaning every 2 minutes a woman is diagnosed with breast cancer. Breast Cancer is the most common cancer among women worldwide so any event or fundraiser or even reaping the color pink will help with this cause.
Everyone needs to get their pink on and join the fight.
