NEW WILMINGTON, Pa.- Organizers of New Wilmington’s Donut DAZE festival are promising to add a “hole” lot more fun to celebrate National Donut Day. The local two-day event begins with the Donut Crawl & Festival on Friday, June 7, from 5-8 in the evening.
On Saturday, June 8, beginning at 8 in the morning, volunteers kick off the Tour de Donut, a bike tour with up to a 60-mile route with periodic stops for an optional donut eating challenge.
“Every year our goal is to bring a unique, fun and donut themed activities the entire family can enjoy,” said Wendy Farmerie, coordinator.
Organizers are also promoting this year’s new Donut Ninja! They say Dunkin’ Donuts developed a challenge where participants must navigate through Donut on a Stick, Munchkin Pong and other obstacles – the fastest ninja winning one dozen donuts a month for a year from Dunkin’! Children’s activities decorating your donut with OH Donut Co and Art + Education at the Hoyt will be offering a Make It and Take It craft. Get in touch with your artsy donut side with the Chalk the Walk competition, sponsored by Keller Williams. The four categories include; 5 & under, 6-8, 9-12, 13+ including adults; with prizes for each category. But that’s not all! Shenango on the Green will be hosting games galore!
Other food options include Pizza Joe’s pizza donut; Dutch Isle pulled pork donut sandwich, and the over 21 crowd can stop into the Fractured Grape for a drunken donut.
Donut crawl levels include; Coma ($35) is all 15 donut vendors, The Crawl ($25) is ten donut vendors, Creep ($15) is five donut vendors. All three levels of the Donut Crawl include a mug and the choice to fill it once with milk, coffee or Italian Cherry Soda. For festival goers wanting just a donut or two, singles will be available from a selection of the 15, but they’ll be spread along the donut crawl. Registration for Tour de Donut on Saturday, June 8 will be Westminster College Field House beginning at 8:00 am. This is also where riders will start on one of three possible routes through the beautiful Amish Countryside. Those who complete their course, as well as the donut eating challenge, will receive the coveted donut medallion – Gluten free substitutions are available!
