3 merging state universities in Western Pennsylvania get new name

EDINBORO, Pa.-- Pennsylvania's move to merge Edinboro, Clarion and California State universities took a big step forward this week with the revelation of the new institution's name-- Pennsylvania Western University.

The Pennsylvania’s State System of Higher Education Board of Governor's approved the new name they are also calling PennWest.

Each campus will keep some of their original identity. The name of each community will be part of their campus (PennWest Clarion, PennWest Edinboro, PennWest California).

The merged universities will also operate an online campus known as Pennsylvania Western Global Online.
