WASHINGTON, Pa. – (Titan Athletics) The Westminster College volleyball team won both of its matches at the Washington & Jefferson College tri-match on Saturday. The Titans won, 3-2, in comeback fashion against W&J and swept Thiel College, 3-0.

The Titans, riding on a 12-match winning streak, improved to 16-1 overall and a perfect 4-0 in conference play.

Washington & Jefferson (7-6, 4-1 PAC) was up, 2-0, after winning set one, 25-16, and set two, 25-22. Set three was tied at 21. The Titans finished the set with a 4-0 run, capped off with a service ace by junior Reilly DeGeorge (Ashtabula, OH / Saint John), for the 25-21 set three victory. In a back-and-forth fourth set, Westminster outlasted W&J, 27-25, forcing a fifth and final set. In the fifth set, the Presidents took an early 6-1 lead. The Titans kept battling and were down, 13-9. Westminster, however, won the set and the match (15-13) after scoring six-straight points, capped off with senior Shanna Daniels (Hermitage, PA / Billy C. Ryan) finding classmate Delaney Saxton (Cortland, OH / Brookfield) for the kill. Three Titans had double-digit kills, led by Saxton and DeGeorge with 15 each. First-year Maya Steward (Los Angeles, CA / William Howard Taft) earned 12 kills. Daniels earned a team-high 33 assists. Senior Rachel Moore (Greensburg, PA / Greensburg Central Catholic) led the Titan defense with a match-high 29 digs. DeGeorge (19), Steward (16), and Daniels (14) all tallied double-figure digs. Saxton tied a career-high with a team-high five blocks.

Against Thiel (7-8, 2-3 PAC), the Titans jumped out to a 10-4 lead in the first set. Westminster extended its lead by double digits (20-10) and took the first set, 25-16. In set two, Thiel took an early lead (5-2), however, the Titans tied it at five all courtesy of a Steward kill. Thiel regained the lead and led, 16-14. Westminster answered with a 4-0 run to take 18-16 lead, and held the Tomcats to just three points the rest of the way to take set two, 25-19. Westminster started the third set with an 8-3 advantage before leading by as much as eight (17-9). Thiel mounted a comeback, getting within two points of the Titans (18-16), however, DeGeorge’s two kills during Westminster’s 6-2 run extended the Titans’ lead to 24-18. Westminster sealed the match victory with a 25-20 set three win. Saxton led the Titans with 11 kills, followed by Steward and DeGeorge with eight each. DeGeorge added a match-high four aces. Daniels dished out a team-best 19 assists, followed by first-year Samantha Kelly (Irwin, PA / Penn-Trafford) with 11. Moore (14) and Daniels (10) each had double-digit digs. First-year Becky Adelman (Mogadore, OH / Waterloo) earned a match-high four blocks.

The Titans will next compete at Pitt-Greensburg on Tuesday, September 25 at 7 p.m.
