WC grad gears up for new career at ‘MotorWeek’ on PBS

Joe Ligo (’14) loves cars.  I would describe him as a gearhead with a great appreciation and understanding for the history, culture, technical specifications and tradition of American automobiles.  His love for all things automotive has now taken this skilled television producer to a new destination.

It’s with great excitement and pride that I share the news about Joe joining the team at ‘MotorWeek‘ on PBS.  Joe is an associate producer and editor on the weekly magazine show that’s been a fixture on public television since 1981- long before Joe was driving a tractor on his family’s farm in western Pennsylvania.

‘MotorWeek‘ is television’s original automotive magazine program based out of Owings Mill, MD (produced at Maryland Public Television).

The  program airs nationally featuring road tests of the newest vehicles, comparisons, consumer-focused car news, feature stories and advice about automative care. This shoutout is the perfect opportunity to point out how Joe was destined for this position.  When he was in high school he competed in the Pennsylvania History Day competition with a documentary he made about the Packard Motor Company. I was one of the History Day judges and his project shined.  At the time it was clear, teenage Joe’s deep passion for cars and a talent for storytelling would take him far beyond the family farm.

While at Westminster, Joe served as program director for Titan Radio, worked with our live television remote crews, reported and anchored on our TV magazine shows while also producing promos and spots. He received a number of peer-related awards including a College Emmy for his capstone documentary, ‘The Unfortunate History of the AMC Pacer.”

Joe’s move to ‘MotorWeek’ comes after more than a year serving as an associate producer at the Cornerstone Television Network based outside of Pittsburgh.

As his passion for all things automotive continues, we wish him all the best and great success with the ‘MotorWeek’ team. Joe Ligo is another example of why we’re so proud of our Westminster College students and alumni.
