NEW WILMINGTON, Pa-- A music video produced by a group of Westminster College students for singer-songwriter JD Eicher was awarded a Broadcast Education Association (BEA) top prize.

Receiving the 2020 Student Film and Video Award of Excellence at BEA’s 2020 On-Location Creative Works Competition held Oct. 24, the video of Eicher’s song “Maybe You Should Know” was produced in 2019 by students Jack Karson of New Wilmington, Steven Knight of Wyckoff, N.J., Ricky Stickel of Pittsburgh, Shaemour Young of Duquesne, Pa., and 2020 graduate Ian Ross, who also made an appearance in the video.

The video also starred musician and 2009 Westminster alumnus Eicher, senior Hannah Roddy of Pittsburgh and former international student Hamish Mathwin of Australia. Westminster 2018 alumnus and videographer Troy Jackson served as the project’s coach and mentor.

The award comes a few months after a video for another Eicher song, “I’m Coming Home” received the 2020 BEA Festival of Media Arts Virtual Vegas Award of Excellence for Film and Video. That video, along with “Maybe You Should Know,” were created as part of last fall’s Two-Day Titan Music Video Challenge.

The On-Location Creative Works Competition provides an opportunity for full-time students at colleges and universities to showcase their creative scholarship. A mix of industry professionals and faculty review hundreds of entries from big and small, public and private higher education institutions.
