NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. (Titan Athletics) – The Westminster College women’s tennis team defeated Thiel College, 8-1, at home in Presidents’ Athletic Conference (PAC) action Monday afternoon.
Westminster improved to 5-3 overall and 4-1 in PAC play, while Thiel fell to 0-10 overall and 0-5 in conference play.
Junior Margo Mason (Pittsburgh, PA / Chartiers Valley), who was recently named the PAC Rookie of the Week for the second week in a row, defeated her opponent in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0, at number one singles. Sophomore Casey Barton (New York City, NY / Dominican Academy) (#4 singles), first-year Sara Small (Beaver, PA / Beaver Area) (#5 singles), and sophomore McKenna Robinson (Pittsburgh, PA / Shaler) (#6 singles) all defeated their opponents, 6-0, 6-0. Junior Alex Marzouca (Kingston, Jamaica / Immaculate Conception) also won at number two singles (6-0, 6-1).
Mason and Marzouca teamed up for a straight-set, 8-0 victory at number one doubles. Sophomore Julia Serbati (Oil City, PA / Oil City Area) and Small won at number two doubles (8-0) while Barton and junior Allyson Gitzen (Pittsburgh, PA / North Hills) were victorious at number three doubles, 8-1.
Westminster is back on the court Thursday, October 11 at rival Grove City College. Start time is set for 3:30 p.m.
