VOLANT, Pa.– The merchants in Volant are hosting their annual Witches Night Out this September to kick off the autumn season in Lawrence County.
It’s the 11th year for this wildly popular event that brings in visitors from Pittsburgh and communities in Ohio. Over the years organizers say they have watched the crowds and costumes grow into a spectacle.
They come to the village to compete in the contests, enjoy the food, and do a little Halloween shopping. The gathering has even drawn in members of bachelorette parties with their pointy hats and colorful stockings.
This year’s Witches Night Out will be held September 29 from 5 to 9 p.m. You can visit the village earlier in the day for the farmer’s market and Amish donuts from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
>Even dogs dress up with the Halloween spirit. There are competitions for best costume, best cackle, and best witch dance. Costumes range from fun to scary, store-bought to some are extravagant, theatrical quality outfits.
A costume parade is scheduled for 6 p.m.
You can find out more at the Volant Mills and Volant Shops online.
