NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. – The Westminster College women’s basketball team won, 76-51, against Grove City College in Presidents’ Athletic Conference (PAC) action at home Saturday afternoon.
 
The Titans (6-10, 4-4 PAC) made 13 three-pointers (54.2%), the second most in school history. Westminster shot a season-high 50.8% (30-for-59) from the floor. Sophomore Alazia Greaves (West Sunbury, PA / Moniteau) (4-of-6) and first-year Magen Polczynski (Irwin, PA / Norwin) (4-of-8) both made a career-high four three-pointers. Senior Jackie Mathews (Pittsburgh, PA / OLSH0) made a pair of threes, while juniors Aliya Gage (New Castle, PA / Mohawk), Brooke Lyczek (Cranberry Twp, PA / Seneca Valley), and Emily Fromknecht (Erie, PA / McDowell) each had a three.
 
Tied 8-8 in the first quarter, the third tie of the game, Westminster went on a 16-5 run to take a 24-13 lead with 1:12 remaining. The Titans led 24-15 at the end of one. Greaves led off the second quarter with a three to give the Titans a double-digit, 27-15 lead. Grove City (10-6, 5-2 PAC) got within eight points of the Titans’ lead (27-19), but that would be the closest it would get and Westminster led 46-28 at halftime. Westminster led 61-41 at the end of three and maintained a double-digit lead for the remainder of the contest.
 
Mathews led the Titans with 16 points (7-of-13), followed by Polczynski with 15. Greaves also scored in double-digits with 12 points. Fromknecht and junior Kayla Bennett (Kent, OH / Theodore Roosevelt) scored nine and eight points, respectively. Gage added seven. Polczynski tied a game-high with seven rebounds, while Gage had five. Mathews tied a career-high with a game-high seven assists. Bennett added a career-high five assists. Polczynski tied a season-high with a game-high three steals.
 
Westminster outshot Grove City 50.8% (30-59) to 32.8% (21-64). The Titans held a 41-37 advantage in rebounds.
 
The Titans will next host Penn State Behrend Wednesday January 16 at 6 p.m.
