NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. (Titan Athletics)– The Westminster College women’s lacrosse team won, 7-6, in overtime at home over Washington & Jefferson College in a battle for the number one spot in the Presidents’ Athletic Conference (PAC) standings Tuesday night.

Washington & Jefferson (4-7, 2-1 PAC) scored first, off the stick of Alexis Miller from a free-position shot with 23:09 on the clock. Westminster (8-2, 3-0 PAC) tied the game, capitalizing off a free-position shot of its own six minutes later, courtesy of senior Emily D’Amico (Moon Township, PA / Moon Area). D’Amico put the Titans in front, 2-1, with her second-straight goal with five minutes left in the half.

Westminster extended its lead with two more goals before intermission as first-year Katie Cipriani (Hermitage, PA / Kennedy Catholic) scored her first collegiate goal after junior Margo Mason (Pittsburgh, PA / Chartiers Valley), the PAC Women’s Lacrosse Offensive Player of the Week, found her with a pass (2:28) and Mason scoring a goal of her own at the 2:05 mark. The Presidents started the second half strong with four-straight goals to take a 5-4 lead with 20:45 left. First-year Magen Polczynski (Irwin, PA / Norwin) knotted the game at five, while Mason earned another assist, with 12 minutes on the clock. Mason put the Titans back in front (6-5) with a goal with less than three minutes remaining in regulation.

W&J’s Clara Sherwood forced overtime with a goal with 46 seconds on the clock. In extra minutes with just over a minute on the clock, Mason avoided a couple of President defenders and found Polczynski in the circle for the game-winner.
