GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Westminster College women’s lacrosse team won, 26-14, breaking the school record for most goals in a single game, at Thiel College in Presidents’ Athletic Conference (PAC) action on Friday.
Titan junior Margo Mason (Pittsburgh, PA / Chartiers Valley) scored a game-high nine goals, breaking the school-record for most goals in a single season with 53. Mason also dished out a game-best four assists, bringing her point total to a school-record 67 for most points in a single season. Mason also broke a school record with a game-high 16 draw controls. Junior Bria Braddock (Beaver Falls, PA / Blackhawk) and first-year Magen Polczynski (Irwin, PA / Norwin) both tallied six goals. Senior Emily Irvine (Cheswick, PA / Deer Lakes) added three goals, while junior Michaela Hays (Blairsville, PA / Blairsville) scored twice. Braddock and junior Emily Marcus (South Park, PA / South Park) each had a pair of assists. Hays tied a game-high with a team-high four ground balls. First-year goalkeeper Emma Bradley (South Fayette, PA / South Fayette) collected eight saves in the win.
Westminster (7-2, 2-0 PAC) started the game with a 3-0 lead and led by as much as four points (9-5) with 18:40 left midway through the first half. Thiel (6-5, 1-1 PAC) got within one point of the Titans’ lead four times with the latest at 9-8, courtesy of a 3-0 run by the Tomcats with 14:07 left in the half. The Titans would not let Thiel get any closer as they pulled away with a 7-0 run and led 16-8 with eight minutes on the clock. Westminster took its first double-digit lead at 21-11 and led by the same at halftime. Thiel scored first in the second half, however, the Titans quickly took a double-digit lead again and maintained it for the remainder of the contest.
Westminster is back in action Tuesday, April 9 as it hosts PAC foe Washington & Jefferson College at 6:30 p.m.
