NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. (Titan Athletics) – The Westminster College women’s soccer team defeated non-conference opponent Wisconsin-Platteville in its season-opener, 3-2, in overtime on Friday evening under the lights at Harold Burry Stadium.

Westminster started the season off, 1-0, while Wisconsin-Platteville dropped to 0-1 on the year.

The Titans got on the board in the first half when senior Kayla Trozzi (Monroeville, PA / Gateway) cashed in her first goal of the season off a lead pass from fellow senior Kiki Kawarizadeh (New Albany, OH / New Albany) to give the Titans a 1-0 lead. Westminster led 1-0 at halftime.

Westminster extended its lead to 2-0 after first-year Julia Redilla (Harmony, PA / Seneca Valley) scored the first goal of her collegiate career just minutes into the second half. After two consecutive Pioneer goals knotted the game up at 2-2, the game went to overtime. Trozzi wasted no time in extra minutes, as she darted through the Pioneers’ back line and deposited her second goal of the game just 44 seconds into overtime to give the Titans a 3-2 victory.

Sophomore goalkeeper Camille Holzschuh (Youngstown, OH / Boardman) picked up four saves in a winning effort for the Titans.

Westminster will be back in action on Sunday, September 1 when it travels to University Heights, Ohio for a non-conference tilt with John Carroll. Kickoff is scheduled for 2 p.m.
