STEUBENVILLE, Ohio (Titan Radio)- The Westminster College women’s tennis team vaulted over non-conference foe Franciscan University, 5-4, on the road Friday evening in its season opener.
The Titans jumped to 1-0 overall, while Franciscan fell to 0-1.
In No. 1 singles, Titan senior Margo Mason (Pittsburgh, PA / Chartiers Valley) picked up a 6-0, 6-3 victory. Junior Julia Serbati (Oil City, PA / Oil City Area) secured a 6-2, 6-0 victory at No. 3 singles First-year Sabrina Slagle notched the other singles victory for the Titans, besting her opponent 2-6, 6-3, 10-4.
The Titans won two out of three doubles matches to help boost them to victory. Mason paired with senior teammate Alex Marzouca (Kingston, Jamaica / Immaculate Conception) to secure an 8-3 win in No. 1 doubles, while Serbati paired with junior Casey Barton (New York City, NY / Dominican Academy) to notch an 8-7 victory in No. 3 doubles.
Westminster’s next match is at home vs. non-conference opponent Penn State Altoona on Saturday, August 31, starting at 11 a.m.
