GREENVILLE, Pa. (PAC-Athletics) – For the third time in the last five seasons, the Westminster College women’s tennis program claimed at least a share of the top spot in the Presidents’ Athletic Conference (PAC) preseason coaches’ poll, as voted on by the league’s nine head coaches. The results of this year’s preseason poll were unveiled along with the league’s players to watch list on Tuesday.
Westminster headlines this year’s preseason poll after tying Grove City College for the top spot in 2014 and being selected as the league favorite in 2012.
Westminster and Grove City tied for the team title at last fall’s PAC Championship Tournament. The Titans earned the PAC’s automatic qualifying bid to last year’s NCAA Division III Championship Tournament by virtue of its head-to-head victory over Grove City. The Titans cruised to a 5-1 win over Hanover College in the opening round of the Tournament. The Division III Championship opening-round win was Westminster’s first and was the first for a PAC participant since 2010.
The Titans and second-year head coach Dave Hayden grabbed eight of the nine available first-place votes and 79 total points.
The Titans open their 2016 season at the Allegheny Invitational on Saturday, September 3.
