WOOSTER, Ohio (Titan Athletics)– The Westminster College men’s and women’s swimming & diving teams completed the last day of the Wooster Invitational on Saturday evening.
The Titan men took third-place out of 10 schools with an overall score of 1105. The women placed fifth out of 11 schools, totaling an overall three-day score of 862.
For the women, junior Kaitlyn Fast (Wooster, OH / Wooster) broke her own school record in the 3-meter (11 dive) event with a score of 455.65, beating her 2018 record score by more than 15 points (440.05). Fast’s 455.65 score was an NCAA qualifying score. Sophomore Zoe Cable (Brookville, PA / Brookville Area) placed second with a score of 423.75, which also was a NCAA qualifying score. First-year Jamie Elia (Beaver Falls, PA / Blackhawk) earned a third-place finish with a score of 405.05. Senior Carolyn Novak (Pittsburgh, PA / Upper St. Clair) recorded a fourth-place time of 53.63 in the 100-yard freestyle. Junior Abigail Jones (Cabot, PA / Knoch) earned fifth-place in the 200-yard breaststroke, swimming a time of 2:29.02. Junior Nicole Stengel (Pittsburgh, PA / Carlynton) finished sixth in the 100 IM (1:05.58), while first-year Anna Grimenstein (Bridgeville, PA / Homeschooled) placed 12th in the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:23.07.
On the men’s side, junior Aaron Dunlany (Boardman, OH / Boardman) finished third in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 1:56.84. Dunlany also recorded an eighth-place time of 17:09.49 in the 1650 free. In the 100-yard IM, junior Matt Kwalick (Sewickley, PA / Quaker Valley) placed second (53.31), freshman Cameron Wood (Southgate, MI / Riverview Community) finished third (56.72), and sophomore Roody D’Agaro (Bridgeville, PA / Chartiers Valley) earned fourth (56.74). Kwalick also recorded a top-five time of 47.07 in the 100-yard freestyle, good for fourth-place. Senior David Peffer(Ellwood City, PA / Riverside) placed third in the 200 back with a time of 1:51.12. In the 200 breast, junior Thomas Somora (Grove City, PA / Grove City) placed 11th (2:13.23) while freshman Trevor McCabe finished in 12th with a personal best time of 2:14.32. For the second straight night, sophomore Connor May (Highlands Ranch, CO / Glacier Park) broke the Wooster pool record with a first-place score of 525.95 in the 1-meter (11 dives) event. Freshman Austin Shaw (Gibsonia, PA / Pine-Richland) took second (450.90), sophomore Zack Thomas (Snohomish, WA / Snohomish) earned third (446.55) and freshman Patrick Holton (Livonia, MI / Winston Churchill) placed fourth (425.60). All diver’s scores earned NCAA qualifying marks (Shaw’s second, Thomas’ third, and Holton’s fourth of the season).
Westminster next competes Sunday, January 6 at Claremont-Mudd-Scripps in Claremont, California. Start time is set for 4 p.m.
