DEFIANCE, Ohio (Titan Athletics)– The Westminster College women’s soccer team defeated non-conference opponent Wilmington College, 2-0, on the road Saturday afternoon in the first day of the Defiance College Tournament.

Westminster start the season off, 1-0, while Wilmington dropped to 1-1 on the year.

After a scoreless first half, Westminster senior Keely Birsic (North Ridgeville, OH / Elyria Catholic) converted on a free kick from 25 yards out at the 50:03 mark to give the Titans a 1-0 lead. Just nine minutes later, Birsic added a second goal to her day, putting Westminster up 2-0. First-year goalkeeper Camille Holzschuh (Youngstown, OH / Boardman) registered four saves in a complete-game effort in her collegiate debut.

Westminster led in corner kicks (5-1), while Wilmington led in shots (10-7).

The Titans are back in action Sunday, September 2 on the road against Defiance College for day two of the Defiance College Tournament. Start time is set for 12 p.m.
